Pushkar fair is the largest camel / cattle fair in the world which is held annually in November during Kartik Purnima. Thousands of people arrive here with their cattle for trading. Along with the trade, various other events are also organised in the festive ground. Pushkar Fair 2013 is going to start from
6 to 17 November.
6 November: Traders begin to appear along their groups of camels, herders from various places and set up their camps in the desert around the Pushkar.
7 November: The gathering grows too immense. Many more camels, herders, nomads, horses, and traders are arrives. Some of them walk to the fair and the others arrive along with their camels or bullock carts, some even travels by truck and tractors. This day is the best for photography and to move around and observe the scene most freely and closely.
8 November: Arrival of traders, camels, horses etc continues. Camels are being inspected and trade starts although the final deal may take a few days.
9 November: On the dunes, one can find around 50000 camels and cattle. There are discussions of vendors and purchasers meets around their animals and the negotiators helps to finalise the deals.
10 November: By now the stadium is setter up for the camel races and other events. The sight on the sand dunes is at its most crowded. The official program of camel race, displays, women competition and other miscellaneous competitions begins.
11 November: Many more people arrive here. The fair is traditionally a great meeting place where even marriages are being arranged. The cattle fair and events in the stadium continue.
12 November: The crowd is busy with camel cart rides, itinerant musicians and vendors. There are cultural activities, competitions and bazaars around the stadium. Camels and traders starts to return to their places, deserts as their trade is finished or one can say concluded.
13 November: Pushkar is the town of temples and bazaars which are becoming more crowded and rushy. The colourful fairground with its stalls, street vendors, sideshows and ferris wheels attracts huge crowds from all over the world. Events continue at the stadium.
14 November: Thousands of colourfully-dressed villagers arrives Pushkar from all over the region to take a dip in the holy lake. The fairground is is at its peak. A craft fair is also stetted with handicraft stalls.
15 November: The town prepared and decorated for the Kartik Purnima religious festival. Pilgrims roams the streets of Pushkar and do shopping in the fairground bazaars. In the mela stadium competitions and events are on the heights.
16 November: During the fair the temples, ashrams and dharamshalas (pilgrim rest houses) are totally packed with the pilgrims. Bhajans ceremonies are conducted in the temples, and the rides and stalls in the mela are to be enjoyed by the pilgrims.
17 November: It is the last day of the Pushkar Fair and of the other official programmes. On the day of Kartik Purnima, thousands of devotees takes the dip in the holy lake, it is believed that lake was created by the lord Brahma when he dropped a sacred lotus flower to earth. This is the day when the grand finale of the festival takes place. It is a day on which thousands of pilgrims visit the temples and takes a dip in the holy lake of Pushkar.
