Pushkar is a sanskrit word and it is derived from two words Pushpa means flower and kar means hand. City is 14 kilometres away from Ajmer and it is famous for Brahma temple, camel ride and the pushkar fair - the largest camel fair in India. Pushkar fair is conducted annually for 5 days, this fair is also known as camel fair and livestock fair. It is one of the major tourist attractions in India. Matka phod, longest moustache and bridal competition etc attracts the tourists from all over the world. It is conducted between October & November. Pushkar fair officially begins on prabodhini ekadashi, the 11th lunar day.

History
The holy lake of Pushkar has 52 ghats, The beauty of the Pushkar lakes speaks itself on the full moon day of Kartik Purnima, where thousand of pilgrims takes the dip in the holy lake of Pushkar to wash their sins.

As we know Pushkar fair is the largest camel festival in the world and place is visited by both Indian and Foreign tourists. The other attraction of the fair are camel races, music, folk dance, puppet shows, trading of live stocks like camels, cows, sheeps and goats. There are many stalls of different regions of India which includes clothes, textiles, bracelets, tattooing etc.
There are around 500 temples in Pushkar and this place is one of the 108 places where Lord Vishnu came to the world to slay the demon Hiranyaksha.
